The Messiah -3

“Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”

Zechariah‬ ‭9‬:‭9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Read Matthew Chapter 21 and 22:1-14.

Before heading to Jerusalem he warned his disciples for the third time of his impending crucifixion: “We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭20‬:‭18‬-‭19‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Jesus begins the week of his crucifixion making a King’s entrance into Jerusalem, riding on a humble donkey. He was praised and recognized by many but still rejected by the leaders of Israel. He proceeds to exercise his authority by sending away the people who were desecrating God’s Temple, and there he is questioned by the leaders.

Reflect

Who gave Jesus the authority to do these things?

What is the significance of the story of the fig tree in this chapter?

Then Jesus shares a few parables. What was Jesus trying to teach the people with those messages?

The problem with the Pharisees and the teachers of the law is they did not recognize their own errors and when faced with their errors they stubbornly hardened their hearts instead of humbly asking for forgiveness and transformation.

What kind of son or daughter would you like to be like?
